I don't watch many horror films, but I did like Scream 3 the best of all the Scream movies, and I enjoyed Halloween H20. I never saw any of the other Halloween movies, and I was with friends the time I saw it in the theaters. They all wanted to see the movie, so I was kinda stuck, but then enjoyed it. I loved the suspense, and the music was wicked.
For a lighter side, I like Watcher in the Woods, and Hocus Pocus, and Halloween Town, which is a Disney movie. My kids love that one as well.

In my opinion John Carpenter's The Fog. Nothing beats the very beginning of the film when the old man is telling the ghost story around the camp fire. If you don't see this part and watch the rest of the film then hang it up. Because the movie is a lot scarier from the very beginning. Check it out.

The Shining (older movie with jack nickelson)
it's scary and has a good plot
I also think The Blair Witch Project (the first one, the second was absolutely horrible) is a good choice too
Nightmare on Elm street is suspensful
