I use a wired modem/router provided by my ISP. I want to be able to access the internet anywhere in the house. What do I need to set-up a wireless connection?

to jlam200: I can see many ports at the back of my modem/router. How do I set-up the wireless router? Do I just plug it in one of the ports? Do I need to setup an antenna?

You need a digital router. Staples and some of the other office stores sell them.

You need a router with wireless capability. (Usually B or G will do the job quite well).
Replace the provided router with the wireless router, set it up as directed, and you should be able to connect to the network while inside the range of the wireless access point.
Your ISP probably gave you a wired router, which dials the connection for you. You'll need your account information, such as username and password, in order to have the router connect automatically.
However, if all the ISP gave you was just a modem (with multiple ports on the back), then you just need to hook up the router between the modem and the computer. The end result should look like this:
Internet -> Modem -> Router -> Computer(s)
Good luck!

since you already use a router, the easiest way to add wireless is to purchase a wireless add-on. There are lots oout there which are not routers, but simply are wireless hosts. The old Linksys WAP11 is a good and affordable example. It has one ethernet port for the uplink from your wired router, and rebroadcasts the signal.
You'll still need to configure the wireless portion and give it a name and add a pssword if you prefer, but then it's pretty much done. The instructions are simple and easy to follow.

Sounds like you're keeping your wired modem/router. In that case, what you need is a Wireless Access Point (WAP). Connect that to one of the open LAN ports on that router and you pretty much have what you need, networkwise.
I took a look at an ad for a used 802.11g WAP and it was selling for P4000 used.

The above answers are all close, but there is a better way. go to http://www.pricewatch.com and look for the wireless hookup for gaming systems. To run wireless, you simply hook one wireless connector to the router, and the other to a NIC on the system you want to run as remote. The distance is limited to about 50 feet, but the speed is comparable to DSL. This would work with both a laptop and a regular PC. For another option please visit http://www.geeks.com and see what they hae. They will be your cheapest bet. Do a search on Yahoo and Google for wireless Gaming Connections, and you should find others as well. I use one at work that I believe is from Linksys. Hope this helps
