why is there so much hunger and starvation in communist countries?

if all work for the good of the country and the people in communist regimes why are there so many poor and starving people in these countries?

Wow some one who is asking a really good question. One of the answers you have already been given is that it doesn't work. Thats exactly correct. Communism goes against the very nature of man. Over and over people try to make it work. Every new leader thinks he is just a little smarter than the others and he has what it takes to make it work. Talk about ego. I think the definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You question falls back on one fatal error in logic. "if all work for the good of the country" You assume that they do. The idea that we expect from each according to his abilities and give to each according to his needs is also flawed. WHO is the judge of ability and needs? I'll tell you who...the guy with a bayonet in your back.

Lets reconsider whats "good for the country" How about a zillion people doing whats in the best interest for them selves. Sounds selfish doesn't it? But thats what capitalism is. I don't spend my money on what the government tells me to spend it on. I spend it on what I think will help me and my family the most. Things like getting an education. Learning to invest my money, and exactly what tools I'll need to do the things I want. Do I invest for my daughters collage education? Or do I fix the roof? Do I want to work here, or would I rather the paycheck of the job over there? These seem like basic choices we all make. Not so under communism.

Communism has no God. In fact it is by its very nature anti God. So people have no morals or values. Its what ever the state says. One person who got out of North Korea after deserting during the Korean war said he was given a wife and told he would have sex with her twice a week. No more, no less. Thats how invasive it gets.

If you let people make their own choices they will out of human nature make choices that are best for them. If a zillion people are all doing things to improve them selves and their families, would that not be the thing that was really in the best interests of the country? Most of the tax and spend crowd don't get this part at all. If I have money I'll take care of me and my own. If the government has my money, it has too many chances to get wasted by fools who have no idea what I need or want or dream of because they don't even know me. Yes it means that we have to live with people who make bad choices, become drunks and drugies etc. However it also means you have a chance to be something if you want...drunk, or Doctor. Either way you pick. With communism you are told what you will do by the guy with the pointy thing on the end of his rifle.

Russia with all its land and lakes and rivers and minerials and people, is still a third world country with a third world economy. They would still be trying to build a nuke if some one had not leaked it to them. China has one of the largest militaries in the world. They are also the most unable to read and write. In other words they do not get to think for them selves. The require instruction from a commanding officer in order to function. Our military can be cut off from any contact what so ever and function just fine. They all read and write. In fact we have one of the best educated armies on the planet.

Sadam had the 4th largest army in the world at the time of the invasion. He figured it would be the mother of all battles just because he out numbered us and had so many weapons. He has more ak47's than the USA has people. Thats not an exageration. We advanced against his forces so fast our supply lines had trouble keeping up. Also not an exageration.

I'm glad you had an interest in this topic and I'm sorry I don't have time to get into the details of it. Hope I have given you some things to think about. If you would like to see a movie that shows the comunists at work get one called the killing fields. Its rated R and is not exactly a new release. Its based on a true story. Its a prime example of what goes on in comunism. Its not pretty.

In short you need to be responsible for you. You need to have a chance to take care of you. If you have to do things the government way, you will go no where fast. If your looking out for you and responsible for you, there is a chance you will fall on your face. Look at New Orleans. It was as close to communism in this country as you can get. One disaster and all those helpless people who had no idea how to care for them selves in a crisis. They could chant for the camera ok. FEMA was later getting there, thats true....2 hours late. FEMA is expected to respond in 72 to 96 hours. The first FEMA truck rolled in after 96 hours. We the tax payer's sent money to fix the dikes, years ago. It was diverted else where. The nursing homes went under water and so did the buses that could have evacuated them. Classic case of a sociaty where Governement is in control. If you examin the Teton dam disaster you will find that the death toll was under 20. They did not have 5 days warning. One hour and 30 minutes. They evacuated 3 towns. They had a hot meal in every ones tummy and warm place to sleep for every one that night. The event occured at about noon as I recall. FEMA did not show up till much later. It was local yocal's who made it happen and took responsibility. You can't get that in a communist country, or a socialist country, or even new orleans.

You can only find it where people are busy doing whats in their own best interest. Its called taking responsibility...does it sound so selfish now?

I wish I had more time to offer you more examples and philisophical discussion but I need to hit the hay. I"m responsible for my kids and so I have to go to work. Thats whats in my best interests. Because they steal from their own people. Other countries food donations are stolen directly form air strips and convoyes and sold on the black market. Within minutes to hours of air dropped food subsidies they are stolen!

The Governing parties are a part of the theft and starvation of their own people. Food and medical supplies are either shifted or trucked to the Government Palace. Black markets are abundant. Authorized and militarily backed. These 3rd world countries forsake the people to further the rule and power of Political Office.

there is no space for those people to dream their own dreams. They are told what they can and cannot do. They basically live for the government. Many face poverty, alcoholism, etc because they suffer depression and have no hope.

communism doesn't work, period

my parents fled the communist regimes when their villages were taken over in WWII. They have seen the horror of it all....

Let me see if I have all the remaining communist countries in mind... Cuba, Vietnam, China, North Korea, Laos. To the best of my knowledge, the only one of these countries beset by hunger and starvation is North Korea.

loss making companies since not profit driven, no accoutability, and governments keep plugging in to keep companies going
correption is widespread
high level officials and especially military get a lot of sweeteners to keep them happy and help the government to control the crowds
high spending on military equipment
all this contribute to a banckrupt economy

I dont think it's there any corellation with hunger and starvation with communist. since in fact there is many country who not communist but there is many hunger, starvation, begger, criminal.

so, It's will depend how the attitude of the ppl to survive.
