They definitely do NOT have to. The stronger, saner ones go on to be advocates for other abuse victims, or counsellors, or psychologists/psychiatrists.

Victims often follow that pattern but it is preventable. Good communication with someone trusted or a therapist is a big factor. The biggest thing to remember is that victims of a pedophile are just that, victims. They will tell you things like you asked for this or that you wanted it to happen. They will threaten anyone close to you to keep you in line so that they can feel empowered. They feel no guilt for what they do but instead try to make you feel guilty. Feel no guilt!!! They are the ones in the wrong. They are to blame, NOT you. Talk to someone. And report this abuse to the law. Let the law work for you to get this person away from all he or she may victimize.

It is really hard to say. Most children that have been victims are to afraid to say anything because they are told by their preditors that it is their fault and when a child is told this, it sticks with them. If the child does tell and the pedophile is brought to justice and that child gets counseling there is a chance that he/she will be a productive member of society. If, however, a child gets tossed into the red tape of our judicial system there is a greater chance that they will follow in their pedophiles footsteps.

Definitely not, I think the whole Foley thing is just an attempt to spin his horrific acts by making him a victim.

Although some do, if it is stopped early and really good counselor is available . . . possibly they could avoid becoming a perp themselves. Unfortunately, the more prolonged the experience, the more likely it is to warp the brain.

I think they are scarred for life and without treatment they perpetuate the cycle they have been put into. With counseling and care I believe it can be overcome, just like any addiction and many illnesses.

Anybody can invent crutches for what happened in their childhood and excuse their behavior later in life.

Just because my father beat me when I was little doesn't mean I ought to beat my kids. I broke the chain.

There is substantial research showing that pedophiles have a genetic predisposition toward children. This can be made worse by being raped, but many pedophiles lie about being raped to gain sympathy of others.

i think that's just an excuse for their acts.

It's either your a pedophile or not. Being abused doesn't make you one.
