some represntatives thought that the general population was to ignorant to decide for themselves who should be in office and were for a king, while others wanted the people to vote as to who would rule over them. sorry to say, but when your are voting for the president, your vote really doesn't count!!! the electoral college makes that decision!!!
the two-party system basically has just happend in the last 100 years... and it is kinda hard to explain... but during the progressive era, there were the hands-off progressives (republicans) and the hands-on prograssives (democrats).. and it just evolved from there..

The US Government is set up as a Democracy (the masses rule for all). However, the foundling fathers set it up as a Republic (I can do my thing as long as it does not interfere with your thing).

Being set up as a Republic, there can be millions of parties, one for every citizen of voting age.

Most forms of governments today are either a Plutocracy (the rich rule for all or the money rule)or a Kleptocary (the thieves rule for what they can get) not what they say they are.

I'm not exactly sure, but since I'm fed up with both parties, I wish someone like Ross Perot would run for a high office again
