Major League II. I relate to the reliever Steve Vaughn's character. I have preached from the pulpit from time to time before, and I always compared my style to the 9th inning closer. I don't waste time, I don't try to be cute, I am very straightforward, I deliver it hard and fast, and am no nonsense. I've had some critics tell me to try to loosen up and be more funny (which I am outside of the preaching of the Holy Word of God). I tried it a couple of times, and it was just like when Vaughn was trying to be more of a junk ball pitcher, who had turned yuppie. Not only was he blowing saves, but he just wasn't happy with the person he was trying to be. When, at the end, he goes back to being himself, he saves the final game of the American League Championship series (which, ironically I am watching as I am watching the National League Championship Series), and his team, the Cleveland Indians, go to the World Series. I relate soo much to his character. I've often said that, if I ever do pastor a church someday, I will keep a baseball behind the pulpit as a reminder that it is late in the game, and the people don't need anything cute or funny, they need God's Word delivered straightforward and fast.
