First, take a good lead. Have a finger on the return to the base button, but in general, take as big a lead as you think you can and immediately when he lifts his leg to the pitcher, take off. Besides speed, also look at what pitcher you're facing. It's a tad easier stealing in the 8th on a tired starter than in the 1st (though not by much) and look at the arm strength of the pitcher. The other thing is to look at the pitches they throw. For instance, you can steal bases with some of the slowest guys in the game on Tim Wakefield's knuckler. Fastballs are tough to steal on with even the fastest guys, sliders aren't easy either. Most of the rest of the pitches you can steal on with a guy 80 or better at least. be careful with getting a good jump....from URL http://forums.simcentral.net/showthread.php?t=8070

If you can read the pitcher and his move to first and to home, you can be Cecil Turtle and steal bases. Learn what makes a balk and watch the pitcher every chance you get. This is the most important thing.
