The United Nations appears, to me, to be at best ineffectual. Not only that, but every time I listen to their broadcasts, they call on the U.S. to fix everything, send more money, go in and police war torn areas, but then get all indignant when the U.S. actually does do something. My opinion is that we should withdraw from the U.N., withdraw our support from the U.N. and give them 48 hours to vacate our country - but I know that's just a knee jerk reaction to the continual U.S. bashing going on in there. What is you opinion?

The termites have taken over the building. "It's another League of Nations," as a WW2 veteran told me early in 2004.

An idealistic scheme among FDR's cabinet in 1944, the UN has had its day -- and didn't do anything.

I agree.

The UN is a great theory. It makes itself irrelevant by not enforcing its own sanctions. Its corrupt as any corporation and has a very clear anti American agenda.

It the UN were to be reformed, which I doubt it ever will be, it could make the world a better place.

In its current state, I would support the US pulling out of the UN. Although Im not entirely convinced this would be advantageous to us, it seems logical given the way it has been ran and as you pointed out, how ineffectual it really is.

That is because the USA is only supposed to take action in ways that could in no way cause any benefit, even collaterally, to itself. Remember after the Tsunami when the USA was sending tons and tons of aid and we were made to take off the USA labels of first so that people would not know that it came from us. That could clash with what those people had been taught about Americans.

When the USA starts torturing, the UN gets just as mad as they would if North Korea, so what? We've screwed so much over in the world, they have a right to be mad... But sure, let's condemn foreign opinion and know that we are the Ubermensch. "Amerika, Amerika Uber alles, uber alles in der welt..."

They take up space and resolve nothing. They should go set up their UN Offices in Afghanistan or Iraq, get them out of New York, they are a joke.

It has been this way for quite a while. You are not alone in your opinion. There certainly is no upside for us other than goodwill.
