Sometimes I find myself thinking in a mix of French and English. When you know something so well, it's like second nature and then there's not a difference between "with" and "avec" in your head.

I speak two languages fluently. I think and dream in my first language only.

I believe people think in the second language.

Sign language ... I imagine they think in words and not hand signs, but what do I know?

Please please do not use free translation websites anyway - they will invariably do a bad job - don't believe me? - well send your short story to one site translate it into French for example, then go to another and translate the French back to English - see what you get!! You are better off asking people who are from those nationalities to translate things for you especially if you want to know how it sounds - Are there no other nationalities in your town at the local University for example ? I could do French, German and possibly Italian (depends on the technical terms) but I don;t really want to post my e-mail on here sorry :(

My mom and dad's first language was French, and they told me they think in French, and have to translate to English when they speak.

I wouldn't call myself fluent, but rather proficient in a second language. I think in English, translate in my head, and talk in Spanish.
