I agree heartily with mary a & morgorond. The more you read the more you question the more you find, leaves you with your mind.
As a practicing solitary of over 20 years, I do recommend Scott Cunningham's Wicca series, they are beginners which I still go to at my age. ( 35 ) IsisBooks is a fantastic place for online ordering; I get a lot there.

Spells for the solitary witch & the wicca handbook by Eileen Holland are excellent books; I own both and rely on them heavily.
If you want to go another place, Llewellyn online has wonderful literature. I wish you the best of luck in your studies.
I included the link to Llewellyn's site.

As an actual witch, Left me tell you a few things first

1. Witchcraft is a scientific and often times religious way to deal with life's problems by useing and manipulateing the energy everything on earth is made up of.

2. A lot of people on the internet run so called "Witch schools" that tell you you can "change your life with ancient witchcraft in just a few days for $ x.xx amount of money." They are crap, and no real witch or pagan has ever benefitted fromthese schools I daresay

3. The only way to learn about witchcraft is through longterm study.

All you have to do is walk into any given Barns & Nobel GO to the new age section and pick up a copy of Lady Sheba's book of Shadows. Then Alister Crowly's Book of Lies...compare them and see what you think of Witchcraft

If you can't find them at your bookstore go to www.azuregreen.com

also, for study and connecting to other pagans

properly u shuld initiate off through interpreting up on some witchcraft, what hues propose, candle magick, and so on.. the subsequent step wuld be to purchase or make altar products (now that's the trickier section for youths as maximum mom and father dont hardship to hearken to what witchcraft is, they basically assume its the devils artwork!), the staple products to get wuld be such issues as: Athames: resembling a small sword, this must be placed contained in the north, this represents fireplace. Pentacle: a shallow dish inscribed with a pentagram, this must be placed contained in the west, this represents earth. Chalice/Goblet: fairly a lot a posh cup, this must be placed contained in the east, this represents water. Phallic-formed Wand: this must be placed contained in the south, this represents air. there are some different equipment that would properly be used, ill basically record them and what they characterize: Bell (air), Candles (fireplace), Crystal Sphere, Besom (a witch's broom, no aspect), artwork force (earth), Sword (fireplace, as with the athame), Boline (a knife used for incredibly slicing, earth), Cauldron (water), e book of Shadows (spirit), Thurible (incence burner, air), wire (earth). also, there are 4 issues with altar equipment that's good to persist with: a million. You by no skill contact yet another witches' equipment with out permission. a similar can word to their rings when you consider that regularly they're charged for a magickal purpose besides. 2. All equipment that are on the altar elect to be consecrated first. 3. Any device will be produced from regardless of components you've, you do not elect to expire to the nearest New Age shop and purchase them. equipment that you're making your self artwork better effective because you're making them utilising your man or woman skill and reason. 4. Any device offered will elect to have some thing finished to it to operate your unique skill and bind it to you. this may properly be an uncomplicated carving, including a gem or stone, portray it a diverse coloration - regardless of. wish this has helps you initiate your journey through witchcraft! )O(

It largely depends on whether you wish to be a solitary witch or part of a coven.

Covens, for some, are a great place to learn from practising witches that already have several years experience but they will also be geared towards a particular tradition of Wicca.

I'm a solitary witch, however, and have studied the subject for many years and find that reading various books by different authors will give you the stepping stone you need to decide which path to take.

Wicca, as with most other religions, has many different branches and by reading what you can on the subject, you will find the right one for you.

I'm very fond of Fiona Horne's books as they are a good starting point for the beginner. You can visit her website at :

http://www.fionahorne.com/

BTW there are no wizards, witches are male and female.

Get yourself a spiritual advisor of the same faith you wish to study. They can help you with any difficult issues that arise. You need to learn a lot before getting into spellwork and the easiest way is to have an advisor.

Find your local bookstore that caters to the pagan community. Many of them offer classes or study groups in spiritual matters.

Read, read, read. This is why you're going to need that spiritual advisor and study group. They can discuss the things you're learning with you. A good place to order books for beginners is Isis Books and Gifts. This is the link to their website for beginning Wicca -------> http://www.isisbooks.com/wiccabeg.asp I order things as gifts for my wiccan friends from them all the time. They're very helpful and respond to all emails.

Go to Community Ceremony if it is practiced in your area. All traditions are welcomed and it will help you meet other people exploring similar paths.

I wish you well on your new path. Happy studying!

witchcraft has many meanings.

when you say the craft it usually referrs to Wicca. to lern wicca there are many books published.

I am a Celtic Pagan practicioner of Witchcraft.

there are some online schools but many of them are a sham.
you would be best to find a teacher or a coven to teach you in your area.

try some occult and new age book stores.

witchcraft is probally more study than it is spellwork.

feel free to e-mail me if you have any further questions.

Well Blessed Be , There are hundreds of books to research the craft. My favorite author is Silver RavenWolf, She is easy reading . She also has a web site, was under construction last time i tried. But read To Stir a Magick Cauldron, it was one of the first books i bought or hers, another is To Ride a Silver Broomstick this should be the first book to read then the Magick Cauldron . Sorry had them backwards. Scott Cunningham solitary practitioner, is another classic. Remember, this is a earth based religion, not to be used for harm. that will come back on you x3 . take care, good luck on your path, and Blessed Be.

There are a lot of books on the subject, even at the local Barnes & Noble. You may want to start there.

If you know any Wiccans that's really the best place to start. You may know some and not know it. When you get used to the lingo and the symbolism you may recognize some of the signs.

I can't recommend this book enough times--it's great for beginners, and I've used it as a textbook back when I taught circles--it's called "the magick power of witchcraft" and it's written by Gavin and Yvonne Frost who started the church and school of wicca--good luck! blessed be!
