Other than being able to crumple normal cars with their massive weight and two-foot high bumpers they are death traps. I once saw an SUV hit an embankment straight head on and still the top-heavy thing rolled over. Hit anything in an SUV and it rolls over. Hit a pothole and it rolls over. Those things are no good at all for anything except rolling over.
The center of gravity of an SUV is up near the roof. In order for one NOT to roll over it would have to be at least 12 feet wide.

to vague of a question, there are many different kinds of cars and SUV's and there levels of safety are big. SUV's may or may not give you size advantage, but they can be prone to rolll over's etc. A important thing to consider is the safety level in all of the crash tests. I currently drive a car, but it outweigh's many SUV's and it has a 5 star safety rating throughout. So in answer to your question, it depends of the vehicles in comparison.

It is not. Accidents are mostly about physics. More mass = more energy in the collision. More energy means something must dissipate that energy be it YOU or the vehicle. Also SUV's and big trucks are the pinnicle of American waste. They are too big, unsafe, use more gas than most cars, and most of all they are mostly completely unneccessary.

depends on the car and the SUV, for example, my jetta is alot safer than my sisters Honda crv and my mom's Toyota Sequoya is much safer than my jetta

its not how many suv's do you see on the side of the road cause they rolled over? just because your up higher all that means is you fly farther when you crash.
