Microsoft is a "Public" corporation. That is, th eowners are the people who own the stock, bought and sold in the public market. At one time he owned the majority of stock but I think the ended some time ago althogh he might have owned the largest block of stock until recently. In fact, he still might own the largest block or he may have sold it. I heard he stepped down from his position in development. He gave over the position of CEO a long time back because he knew his expertise was in development, not in managing a huge corporation. So he was in developemnt, but he owned this huge block of Microsoft stock so he had a lot of say in what the compan did. If he still owns that stock, he still has that say. If he doesn't then he doesn't. BTW who and how much stock anyone owns is a matter of public record with all public companies.
