The world is divided into more than 24 time zones (some time zones use -30 half hour increments. ie: St. Thomas, New Founland Canada is one and a half hours ahead of US Eastern time). Therefore, the current time around the world varies by 24 hours at any given time, or a day. The international dateline in the middle of the Pacific (180 degrees latitude) sets the division for the day. West of this line is the next day, east of it is the previous day. For example, let's say it's currently 12pm in Honolulu, Hawaii (east of international dateline). If we go east around the world and cross into different time zones, the hours increase. Example: 12pm Monday Honolulu, then it's 2pm Monday in Los Angeles (no daylight time-Hawaii doesn't set clocks ahead in summer, so it would be 3pm in LA during daylight savings time). The time zone 12 hours ahead of Honolulu (Eastern European Time) would be midnight on Tuesday. So, current time in Athens, Greece: 12am Tuesday. If we continue our journey east all the way to New Zealand (slightly west of Internatinal dateline) it would be mid morning Tuesday. If we cross the internatinal dateline again, the day would reset from Tuesday back to Monday, starting the cycle all over again. Timezone just west of international dateline: 10am Tuesday, just east of dateline (2 hour behind Hawaii) 11am Monday. So, for it to be Friday night somewhere in the world, the current time at the international dateline would have to be in the range of Thursday night to Friday night. If you were in New York (7 hours ahead of dateline), time range would be from 7am Friday-7am Saturday.
