They will turn brown and die. You can get rid of that when they do die back if you want to but really there is no need to until spring. The plants sort of make their own cover with their leaves. If you are way up north you may want to cover them with some leaves to protect them and it's good for them too. Other than that just leave them and they will pop up in spring. then you can rake and divide them if they have gotten so big they make free plants for you every 2-3 yrs. Just dig up, separate the roots and replant wherever you want. I love them

I have never trimmed mine. In the spring, make sure that you pick up all of the dried leaves and you should see the new shoots coming up.

specific you are able to decrease hostas to the floor till now winter. specific you additionally can leave them. in my view, i think of the spring cleanup will pass lots smoother in case you decrease them down now. you are able to mulch them or merely throw them someplace out of how and that they are going to finally decompose. the subject with hosta leaves is they might each so often conceal snails and slugs and that i do unlike them in my compost. I bag them and deliver them to the interior reach compost.

You may leave them as they are or wait until they are completely brown and then clean them up.
