well i am 16 too and it has been awhile but when i was in the 4th and 5th grade i played violin and i was good at it. I remember it being perty much easy, after you learn how to read the notes, but there is only 4 strings and ya i say it is easy.

Yes, it is hard to learn how to play the violin especially, if you can not read music. I took lesson for a while and just finally quit because, I just could not grasp it. I could memorize the music that was taught me but, after that forget it. I also think playing the guitar is a lot easier. But, if you want to play the violin..go for it! You only live once! :)

You should try the Suzuki method with a qualified instructor. It is easy to learn, but the key is that you need to practice and put effort into it. My son and daughter both started violin at age 6 and did great.

i was a violinist all through elementary school and was excellent at it ,you will do great considering the way you start is to pluck the strings like you would w/ a guitar, thats how they begin you and from there doll just rosin up that bow and git'rdone ,i would still be playing today had my brother not sold my violin for drugs w/out my consent

yes, extremely, especially at your older age.
it might not take that long to get the fundamentals, such as bowing and holding the violin in the correct position..
but the harder things, like articulation, fingering, vibrato -- they all take a long time to master.

however, once you do "master" those techniques, it is an extremely rewarding experience. i encourage you to try. if you are willing to take the time to learn it, i am sure you will do fine.
