Well it all depends on the amount of alcohol and the duration of the drinking...

Lets say the mother was drinking enough to get drunk 2-3 days a week before she found out she was pregnant...her baby COULD be fine IF she stops drinking immediately. If a woman is a stone alcoholic that gets pregnant the chances of carrying to term are very low, even if she quits drinking (mostly due to withdrawl symptoms and malnutrition). However there are women that drink an occasional glass of wine and have healthy babies, but there is a risk and the odds are not known.

Possible side effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome include (but are not limited to) low birth weight, early term birth, brain damage, social retardation, and possible still birth...not a chance a mother should be willing to take.

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a condition that effects the baby, also the baby could have a low birth weight, and if the mother drinks too much it could cause her to have a miscariage.

Vodka is the only safe alcohol to drink during pregnancy. The chemical reaction from the potatoes used to make it actually help the fetus.

It's called Fetal Alcohol Syndrom. One drink or 100 drinks can cause this and it is not good. Slow learning, odd facial features, quite or no speech etc.

Personally, I think it's a bad idea for a mother to drink while prego... But my best friend's step-daughter's mother drank everyday (was drunk almost all of them) that she was pregnant. The child now is ADHD and way behind where she should be for her age. There are numerous other problems that can occur...just yahoo search it.

Well an occassional drink, like 1 glass of wine a week or so is ok. However, any more will cause birth defects.
