Mitosis is the process by which a cell reproduces itself. There are no daughter cells. The new cell is an identical copy of the original without all the wear and tear but it still knows who it is and it's age. If it weren't for mitosis, you'd be calculating your life in dog years.

& to correct a preceding mistaken answer, meiosis is where there is a reduction division in which one of each pair of homologous chromosomes passes to each daughter cell, so that the daughter cells have half the chromosomes. I.E., in making sperm or egg cells.

either Mitosis or Meiosis, not sure which one you are after, Mitosis is the process of regular cell division, meiosis is the process of making an egg and a sperm fertalize
