My high school art teachers practically begged me to major in art or architecture in college. I started out in architecture but ended up with a "more practical" degree recommended by my family. A BA in Computer IS.
The most important thing I needed advice on and no one spoke up until a couple of days too late (after getting married) was "Don't marry that guy!"

a mother-like woman -- once told me "get married" -- i responded, I have to find a job! she answered back -- a job you can always find. look for a wife. she was right. that was years ago. (thanks for asking the question-- it reminded me how right she was!)
