Is it me or is it that most americans are perceived as racists becuase what some groups say or do? and being boisterous as they usually are they are perceived as the majority? I am Mexican and every time I have been to the U.S ( I went to college there ) white americans have treated me nice but oddilly enough I have been discriminated against by mexican-americans ( this doesn´t mean there aren´t nice mexican-americans some have been nice to me ) and the african-americans also treat me nice even practice their spanish with me, so the question is: is it just my perception of things or am I just a lucky guy?

To sum up to me the majority of white americans are not racists but they are viewed so because of perception.

me i judge people on how they act, if you are a respectful, nice person that exactly what i would be towards even if you were a green alien from outerspace (lol) but if you not respectful towards me i will not be respectful to you no matter what your race I was raised to respect everyone that DESERVES respect. I will not be called cracker, whitey or any other deragtory term and be respectful to the person callin it to me in fear of being called a racist. There are white racists, there are black racists, hispanic racists etc.. there are good and bad in all people

Probably a little of both.

You know, it usually is the one making the most noise that gets the most attention, so that doesn't help matters when it comes to perceptions. Heck, if you don't experience it first-hand, you often have to make decisions based on what's available to you.

Once I was in a Mexico border town when a large white man, complete with cowboy hat and a drawl (yes, dressed like the stereotype) was attempting to haggle with a salesperson in a store, a department store where everything was priced. He just thought he was hilarious and couldn't understand why they wouldn't work with him. As a fellow white American, I wanted to sink into the floor! Even though I didn't know the guy, I was embarrassed - guilt by association, I suppose. And you know, if that's what you're faced with day after day, that's going to be your perception.

Do you think, though, it's white Americans or just Americans in general? The perception part of your question, that is.

not all white people are racist. a lot of hispanic and black people are racist too. it depends on who the person is. ur question is racist b/c ur talking about white people in a whole, whereas it was just one person, and not all white people are racist. Before u call others racist, think about if the way u r saying it is racist. Americans are actually extremely non-racist, if u ask me. U should go to some places in europe, then u can say racist and yes, that was very racist, no excuses, b.c the other lady didnt get to give excuses either

White americans are perceived as racists by people who are raciest. People want to blame all of their problems on the evil white guy. Truth is in all groups of people, there are racists and non racists. Also, just to let you know, different groups of white peopel do not like each other. Such as the French and English, Irish and English, Germans and Russians the list goes on and on.

i dont really see my self as a racist. i guess you could call me white. im of Cherokee, Irish,English, french, and Sicilian decent. hell i dont even know what group i fit in except hillbilly. personally i like Mexicans, most that ive met are hard workers, and smart. they seem to me to have a lot of pride. there aint many black folks here, ive only gotten to know a few families, there all good folks.

in fact, just on the percentages, id say that i dislike a whole lot more whites than any other group.

I think the term "racist" is over-used and worn out, and most people have no idea what it means. It seems to me it is used as a dergoatory term by people who are racists themselves for people who do not agree with them, in an attempt to intimidate them into backing down.

"Racist" is also used by illegal immigrants as a term to describe those "white Americans" who oppose allowing illegals to stream into the country unhindered.

I am sick of all the hoo-haw over phony racism; it's mostly bunk.

As a white American who doesn't consider herself a racist, I've got to think there are more out there like me. Everyone should be treated well. I very much hope your treatment was the rule and not the exception.

I guess it really depends on who you are exposed to. Racism tends to have its roots in fear of the unknown so if you go somewhere where there are bad preconceptions about a group that you may belong to it is not likely that you will be greeted well.
