Everything. Saavy marketers need age/gender/debt/home ownership/# of cars/# of children. Anything that will assist them in niche targeting their products. They are voracious, having never met datum they didn't adore.

I wrote marketing software for a major credit card company for a while.

# 1 - spending patterns
# 2 - lifestyles
# 3 - political affiliation.

Anything a potential vendor has to sell, there is a personal characteristic that makes a person a target for envelope stuffers (junk mail). e.g. A person spend $100+ at Home Depot every month might be selected for a promotion on a new lawn mower, or a spray painter.

On NPR today, I kinda heard the reverse - Republicans were looking for people who either weren't registered with a party, or who were registered Democart, but who bought hunting equipment or an SUV in the last year - i.e. matching a lifestyle to a party, with the intention of trying to persuade that person to vote Republican.
