high speed internet is the dumbed down, non-technical name for broadband mainly used by marketing people
DSL is a form of broadband. It uses a standard phone connection...the reason why it's faster than dial-up is because it uses the whole frequency spectrum offered by copper wire. Dial up on the other hand, acts like a bunch of computers talking to each other, so it's limited to only the voice frequency range, which is very limited. (this is also why when you pick up the phone while you're on dial up, you here the gargled noise...it's computers "talking")
the other kinds of broadband are cable internet, offered by your cable provider, and in some places (mainly in northern virginia and keller, TX), fiber optics (the fastest connection availible to date since it travels at the speed of light), offered by Verizon.
Juding from your computer specs...I would say you probably need a kind of card called an "ethernet card" for your computer since it's so old. even then, I'm going to be on the fence about it...yes broadband is 300x faster than dial up, but you also have to factor in the performance of that old computer.

Broadband is a term to describe high-speed Internet. Some claim high-speed dial-up, but this is not true broadband.
The problem you might run into with your computer is in the software that your ISP might provide. Just running your computer on a broadband connection isn't much of a problem. The provider provides the connection and you plug the computer in. The issue will be if you are required to run some particular software provided by the ISP. You might want to contact them and describe your computer and see if it's supported.

DSL is a term that describes a specific kind of connection. "Broadband" and "high speed" are just generalized terms that are made to refer to any kind of internet connection that is fast.
How old your computer is probably will not affect the speed of your connection. If you have a 10/100 ethernet card, then it will be as fast as even new computers. Certain web pages that require a lot of processing power might seem slow, but this has nothing to do with the internet connection.

DSL is broadband internet access, which is also high speed. You shouldn't need a new computer, just a modem, which AT&T will give, or sell you.
