It's all about the drama. The writers need a story line for her to agonize over. I think their reasoning behind it is that she doesn't need the money to be happy. It just emphasizes the bigger issue of her not returning to work. She needs that to feel fulfilled.

She's going thru a really rough time...think about how you'd feel if you were in her shoes. Yes, you're excited to have that money, but the man of your dreams died, and you're devastated. She's probably still in shock.
Has no one ever dealt with the loss of someone that close? It's not that easy!

No kidding. I am getting sick of her. Go in the hospital already. She is lucky she has a job and a licence after what she did. Take the money and run...

Taking the money would be like profiting from the relationship which would remind her that she cut the chord.
