Adams, TN. It is not far from Nashville, so it is a drive from Louisville, but it is where the Bell Witch legend comes from, which was inspiration for the recent movie "An American Haunting". And on the plus side, you could make a weekend of it and spend some time in Nashville.

They say Gettysburg is haunted, but it depends on how far you want to go. What do you consider "close to your home?" I think an awesome place to visit would be Salem where they used to hang people they thought were witches!

a place that isn't too far from you is in Vincennes Indiana, go to the Purple Head bridge. it's a one lane wooden bridge that is scary as hell. Really really cool.
