rfamilyme is correct and has my vote for best answer... But he/she really should tell you the theory behind it so that you can figure this out on your own...
The idea in adding fractions with different denominators (the number at the bottom) is to figure out what is the least common denominator between all of them (what is the lowest number that all the bottom numbers can be multiplied into) In this case it is 16 as all the denominators can be multiplied by a number to equal 16... ie. 2 x 8, 4x4, 8x2 and 16 x1. Then you have multiply the numerator (the top number) by the corresponding number... 1/2 becomes 8/16, 1/4 becomes 4/16, 1/8 becomes 2/16 and 1/16 stays at 1/16.
Now all you have to do is add the numerators (the top numbers) and leave the common denominator (the bottom number the same)... so 8+4+2+1=15 and then put it over 16 so the answer is 15/16.
P.S. - roy40372 is wrong 1/16 = .0625.. not .625

Convert all of your fractions to the same denominator - 16:
8/16 + 4/16 + 2/16 + 1/16 = 15/16

Convert all of the fractions to the least common denominator, which is sixteenths.
1/2=8/16; 1/4=4/16; 1/8=2/16
8/16 + 4/16 + 2/16 + 1/16 = 15/16

(1/2) + (1/4) + (1/8) + (1/16)
(8/16) + (4/16) + (2/16) + (1/16)
(8 + 4 + 2 + 1)/16
(15/16)
Just multiply everything by the LCD.
