The American Revolution occured largely due to economic policies considered repressive by the colonial elite. The colonial elite then developed their own political ideology that would appeal to the masses so they would fight the British.

A good thesis really makes or breaks a paper. Without the thesis, you have no chance of getting a high grade on the essay.
A good thesis is step one of three of the essay, which are Say what you're gonna tell them, tell them, and say what you just told them.
Your paragraph should start broad, with some concrete detail that describes the era and puts the reader in the mindset of 18th century american society, then you hit them with you thesis statement, which should be UNDERLINED, and is clear and concise, like It was chiefly economic restraint from Britain and new American born political idealology that led to the American Revolution.
And then right there, you have your two body paragraphs, one discussing economic restraint, the other political idealology. A well defined and straightforward thesis makes the rest of the essay come easy.
