People in general are afraid of anything they do not understand. It can even make them feel inferior. If someone does not understand a religion they would rather start wars than to take the time to understand anothers point of view. If they do not understand a lifestyle then they block it out, sometimes because it exposes their own frailties. As for me I have the attitude "I don't care if you ride a bus, take a train, walk, or ride a bike as long as you get to where you are going and are happy and do not hurt anyone in the process."

Because, some things are so difficult to accept, the only way to "live with them" IS to block them out. I think you over-simplify this issue by saying accepting something results from ones' own mistake. Sometimes having to learn to deal with certain things has nothing to do with something someone has done to themselves personally - i.e., a mistake.

This is a coping mechanism that is developed in young children and help them to deal with situations that they are not powerful enough to remedy. As a person gets older instead of developing better coping techniques they just continue to use this one since it worked well before. The problem with this is that the problems are never resolved and although the person does not admit it still feels the repercussions of frustration at not having changed anything.

Sometimes our mistakes outnumber our abilities to accept them...Repression leads to depression...Depression leads to withdrawn social standing..and that is the first building block between the individual and the not-so-perfect world. Acceptance is grand, but it seems a stale biscuit to chew to some....Uncertainty is running rampant in the world we live in....

I agree with you 100% on that however there are many who will bring down a wall in front of them so to speak, to shield themselves from hurt or pain. Some people refuse to accept their mistakes, instead they choose to hide behind them.
Me I am just the opposite I always admit my silly mishaps.

Gee... you think? =P
Otherwise, there wouldn't be terrorism or even the current North Korea nuclear tensions between them & China right now...
It would BE a different world indeed.
However that's the way life is.
Maybe by blocking out (not ignorance though) helps to numb out our helplessness in changing it, I guess.

Its better to not dwell on bad things that happened to you. The more you are able to forget, the less bad feelings are inside you. It does no good to harbor feelings of revenge or to hold grudges. It does not hurt the person intended, it only hurts you and can even cause health problems within you.

I don't see much difference with just living with something or blocking it out - and thereby just living with it - but at least it's not right on the surface to bug you or make you obsesse about it.
