I'm a Pediatric RN with over 20 years experience and would ask you to please have your 6 week old infant examined by your pediatrician regarding this upper respiratory infection or atleast discuss your concerns about your infant over the phone with the doctor. Babies at this age can get into serious difficulty with breathing problems as well as with dehydration in a very short time period. Please do not try to treat the baby with over the counter medications for the respiratory symptoms or follow the treatment suggestions of any well meaning person including a RN or a Pharmacist. Only a Physician can prescribe for your baby and I would insist that this be based on a physical exam. If you are not receiving this kind of help for whatever reason please take your baby to your nearest Emergency Room of your local hospital so that the baby can be adequately assessed and treated. You owe this much to your baby and to yourself. A mother should always rely on her instincts regarding her children and do what is in the best interest of the child. I would drive you myself if I was nearby and have done it for a mother with newborn triplets. Good luck to you and God bless you and your little one.

Yes, definitely ask a real healthcare professional about that. In the meantime, to help your baby's congestion, slice an onion and put two or three slices on a plate and put that plate where your baby can't help but breathe in those delightful onion fumes. This will honestly alleviate a baby's congestion. Your little angel will smell like he or she needs to hit the showers, true, but the congestion will be gone so he or she can nurse comfortably. It really works, and even works on grown-ups, too. When the onion slices lose their potency, replace them with fresh ones. Onions are cheap; your baby's health is priceless. Call the doctor about dosages for any chemical medicines.

NONE! Please call your pediatrician before giving your nearly newborn medication. She/He would want to know what's going on and would not want you to medicate your infant without being talked to first. It's the safe thing to do.
