OK, I am an apartment manager and the only way to get the smell out is to get rid of the smokers, not in the house, thank you. I don't allow it in my house. Then You will have to either wash the walls, you can use a sponge mop to make it easier or you have to paint. Sorry. Then all the curtains and drapes must be washed. The nicotine is like an oil, it is brown and gets into everything. Yes, if you have carpet you will have to clean it also. I put a little vinegar in all the water to kill the smell. plus I always add some fabric softener to my carpet solutoion. It softens the carpet and helps it to repel spills. **** and span is great for the walls, no rinsing. Then wipe down things like furniture and cieling fans. It is difficult, especially if they were chain smokers or there were a few of them. Temporarily I would put water on the stove on simmer and put some orange or lemon peels in it, cloves work too and let it simmer. It may help. Also, for now you can spray a vinegar and water solution on things that you can't wash right away. Good luck.

This happened to a friend of mine... He bought a condo from a heavy smoker... The walls even had a smoke film on them....

Try spraying Fabreze.... That usually works! If not wash all walls with a 1/4 bleach to 3/4 water solution (be careful not to get it on any carpeted areas - put drop cloths down) ... Finally, have all carpets and drapes professionally clean.

Have the carpets steam cleaned, take down all the drapes and wash them, and either 409 the walls or paint them. Ceiling, too - ceilings hold that smell badly! I quit some time ago, and I can smell it in any house I enter where smoking goes on inside. It's awful! Worst smell in the world, almost.

A trick used by realtors for open house showing is to take 2 teaspones of real vanilla extract in a dish is a low temp oven-- it gives a scent of fresh baked cookies-- some even place cookies on a tray to complete the image.

you could re-paint but you don't have to.first pull down all curtains and drapes and wash them(do the same with blinds)next wash all walls and ceilings.then rent a shampooer and steam clean all furniture(i use ammonia in the steamer, its better than anything I've ever tried and it cost 99cents a bottle and keep doing it till the water comes clean, same with carpets)you will need to suck the water out a couple times and open all the windows.this will probably take a couple days.make sure to wash all the windows before you rehang drapes and blinds

Steam clean the carpets, wash the draperies and repaint the walls. Leave the windows open as much as possible and leave bowls of white vinegar all around the house (it's supposed to neutralize the smell).
