A termite rugged up for winter?

A thermite reaction is a type of aluminothermic reaction in which aluminium metal is oxidized by the oxide of another metal, most commonly iron oxide. The name thermite is also used to refer to a mixture of two such chemicals.

This site describes an experiment to do, be careful!

Thermite is a mixture of iron oxide powder and aluminum powder.
They make a mold about two pieces of steel like railroad rails and ignite it with a magnesium ribbon.
The aluminum burns very hot consuming the oxygen in the iron oxide powder. the resulting molten iron runs down into the cavity, solidifies and you have welded the two pieces together. The process takes only seconds. except for preparation and clean up
I think I just wasted my time on a misspelled word.

Isn't that what Tim Allen's character (Commander Taggert) called the aliens in the movie "Galaxy Quest"? (Can't remember what they were really called). I think the Bad Guy (Saris?) knew how to do science experiments on them!
