Many municipalities require that you go through the process of applying for a re-zoning permit to have the property listed as residential instead of commercial. So your first place to turn to for answers will be your local city hall or permits department.
Depending on your location and what type of commercial building you have purchased, you might have a lot of work to do with the insulation and HVAC, doors, windows, and more. It's quite difficult to provide you with detailed information with so little to go on though.
Once you've obtained status as a residential property, you'll have to be in contact with your electric company, local taxation office, gas/oil suppliers, and others to notify them of the zoning change because certain rates might be different.
Good luck!

municipal government first check if the government will allow it !
There probably are zoning restrictions and regulations concerning what the building may be used for. If its zoned for ICI (industrial or commercial or institutional) then most likely it can't be made into residential, unless you apply for re-zoning, and get building permits

don't ask any municipality, they will spank you if the rules say you can't.... tell them you're going to re open a business, maybe a conv.store, & you need a bath/toilet area for 24 hour operation & customers!
see if others in area!
