1. Melatonin (at the health food store)
2. Tape record songs from Sesame Street clips on YouTube, then play back the tape beside you in bed at night; sounds stupid but works like a charm
HERE IS THE MOST POWERFUL REMEDY
3. Count things in your life you are thankful for, even if it is as small as the fact you have a warm blanket. Try to get to 100. You will fall asleep at 60.

Tips to Sleep Well
Does the thought ever occur to you that you may be deprived of your complete sleep? Is your quality of sleep adequate? Do you often feel tired, unable to concentrate and not energetic at the beginning of a day?
World Health Organization studies indicate that one third of the world population suffers from insomnia at some point of time in their life. And 5 percent of those need medical intervention. But this need not be the cause of worry, as there are numerous natural remedies and techniques to counter insomnia. Those being:
1) Sit and relax before you hit the bed. Listen to soft music and do deep breathing exercises. These will calm you and help you sleep. Come what may, do not consume caffeine, alcohol or nicotine before you sleep.
2) Formulate a bedtime routine, for the evening, which can be associated with sleeping. For example, drinking hot milk and having a warm water bath can be really helpful. Milk contains tryptophan which induces sleep while a bath / shower lowers the internal body temperature thereby signaling the body that its time to sleep. An equally effective alternative is chamomile tea, which is known to calm nerves.
3) Avoid activities like eating; watching TV, reading etc. in your bedroom as the body is unable to associate sleep with the bedroom. Your bedroom should be a dark and cozy place, which gives you the feeling of comfort and security.
4) Before you sleep, always empty your mind of thoughts for the next day. Make a to-do list, organize clothes for the morning, and prepare lunch a night before. Delay appointments in case you worry about getting up early.
5) Release all the anxieties, regrets and other negative thoughts from your mind that may be troubling you since long. Straighten out things between family members, forgive and forget all that has hurt you, and if at all required, make that appointment with your psychologist.
6) Organize your life and your chores. Make dinner and freeze half for the next day. Pick up your room everyday so as to avoid it becoming a big task. A menu for the entire week is also a good idea. Make time for a good night’s sleep.
7) A balanced diet is a key to feeling healthy and thereby having a good sleep. Include the essential vitamins and minerals in your food and remove all the junk food stuff that is occupying your cabinet. Regular exercising should be done to stay fit.
8) If you are not getting sleep, don’t lie in the bed worrying, as it’ll only make it worse. Get up, distract yourself with something till the time you feel sleepy.
9) Few drugs can cause insomnia. Consult your physician in case he has prescribed any drug, which has insomnia as a side effect.
10) Another important cause is stress. By following the above techniques, stress can be regulated and you can have a peaceful sleep.

the best remedy is in fact sleep... but you know that dont you?
try this...physically relax your toes, your feet, ankles, knees, hips, fingers wrist etc etc....
i tried pills many years ago, they work, but oh my goodness you pay for it... its a dirty feeling...and youre so tired..
im in a wheelchair so doing a hard days work isnt really an option... and if im not tired, im awake. which how come im fast approaching a level 5 and its 2 40 am here. lying in bed is very counterproductive tossing and turning is very annoying and strangely tiring... but you just dont drop off.
ive learned, stay up until you can keep you eyes open, and your horizontal hold has gone... then go to bed... believe me, after 16 or 18 hours awake, your body is grateful for some downtime..
i love the nnight, its quiet, the phone doesnt ring, no one knocks at the door selling stuff... me and the wife of 25 years like it this way..long ago, when sprogs were babies, (Mum was really tired) so, shed be asleep by 10 30, 11pm...she'd do sprog a bottle and put it in an oven mitt.. by 3am baby was stirring, i'd pop her bottle in and change her...and she went straight back to sleep... then id go to bed, wife was up at sparrows fart, and i slumbered until 9am... like i said, im in a wheelchair, so i dont exactly work...
yes, i know it was a luxury..parents who manage to get some sleep..unheard of..i don'y believe you!!! we did it with both daughters... mind you dont get the idea im a new man.. i dont do anything else bar cook when shes busy (and im hungry) but at least i did my bit as a dad... and wifey got some much needed sleep.... after all shes got me to look after as well...
which is why shes upstairs snoring, and im down here typing... but the house is silent...

You can try these things:
Close your eyes, and relax, then imagine your brain moving front, left, right, front, left, right....keep doing it till you fall asleep.
Or, close your eyes, then imagine a letter in your mind. For example, if you imagine the letter 'A' then think about 'A'. You will start seeing some strange, dream-like images. Don't stop them, and keep whatching them till you sleep.
Those are both easy way to do basoc meditation, and it helps.
By the way, it is said cause sleeping problems when you are lacking vitamin B6, so watch your diet and try taking vitamin tablet if you need.

I know it makes me sound about 150 years old - But I find that a mug of Horlicks helps me sleep. Also try to avoid drinking anything with caffeine in it after about 6pm, and don't go to bed on a full stomach.

Masturbation usually helps. But seriously. Try over the counter allergy meds. Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride. Take 50-75 mg. Works great for me and I wake up refreshed.

Relax before you try to go to sleep - do some yoga or another non-energentic exercise.
Don't use the pc before you go to bed - read instead, or listen to music. The light over stimulates the brain.

This works for me - A warm glass of milk. Put milk in a microwavable cup for about 1-2 minutes then drink. Make sure it's warm and not hot. It tastes gross hot.
