Great question! I shake my head at people's comments and the "rolling of the eyes" when someone from another culture or race does something other than we surmise that they should act, believe, say or BE! Though these actions seem to part of us being "human" these are learned responses - I wish that we can UNLEARN them and just allow people to just simply be THEMSELVES, regardless of how they are perceived!
Yes, there ARE people in the 'hood who can't dance and listen to Classical music.
Yes, there ARE talented Oriental Rappers!
Yes, there ARE Latinos who can Rock your socks off!
Yes, there ARE white people who can play sizzlin' Jazz!
There are also elderly people who love Run-DMC and Marilyn Manson.
And there's the Wall-Streeter who can't wait to get to the next Staind concert
Not to mention the possibility of some Gen-Y'ers and the New Silent Generations gettin' jiggy with Bluegrass.
One of the most valuable lessons that I have learned in my long life is that to expect the unexpected in people and to not prejudge others based upon what you perceive they should or should not be in life.
BTW, I LOVE the duo Lilac Ambush's music and I am old enough to be their grandmother!

Because rock and country are done by white people and I don't think it's a negative funny, I think it's like a "wow" funny.
And are you sure all black people don't laugh at that? Because I have had some friends look when they've seen a white person listen to rap. So guess what yes "we" do.

Are you old enough to remember Charlie Pride an excellent country singer ? On the radio we listen to music and are not distracted by things that don't matter,it is simply enjoying the music genre we like. Do you remember Vanilla Ice, do you think rap fans respected his work?

Because white people have always been more interested in black music than black people are interested in white music.
White people like white music and black music.
Black people like black music.

It's stereotyping. Even the best of us still do it even when we don't mean to. Although, I will say, everyone I hear listening to rock gets an approving nod, and everyone I hear listening to country gets that funny look, no matter what color they are.

Same reason they used to look at white people funny when they listened to rap.
Hopefully in time that look will go away.

You don't laugh but you still think something is odd about it. It is just culture and steretypes. No matter how many people want to say, oh I wouldn't think that, most of us do deep down. I think it has to do with how we where raised. Also, our thoughts are very different from our actions.
