According to legend, vampires have no souls. They are "undead". Neither they, nor someone who looks along with them can see a vampire's reflection in the mirror because a mirror supposedly reflects the soul. No soul, no reflection.

How many of you have read Dracula by Brahm Stoker? Right there, all the faulty Christian vampire mythology rolled into one. Vampires, in the Christian Mythos, which is a carry over from other religions and folk myths, are devils. They are evil spirits that prey on humans. As instruments of evil, of course, Christian artifacts will serve to fend them off; hence Crucifixes, Holy Water, Holy Ground, etc.
Why the mirror thing? Why can’t vampires see themselves in mirrors? Because once, mirrors were thought to reflect one’s soul. In fact, all reflections were thought to reflect not one’s face or body, but to show the soul. The garlic bit stems from an old belief in the power of wild roses. Don’t ask.
Now, how about the sun bit, the bursting into flames and all that? Well, as creatures of darkness, of course they can’t stand the light. And sun, of course, so much like son merely confirmed the Christian ideas… these were evil souls who had never accepted Jesus.
This whole affair is nothing but myth and folklore. Which, of course, don’t explain why Marcus went up like a Roman Candle yesterday morning.

One answer and one question:
Vampires can't watch themselves in a mirror because they have no soul, as they are undead and contrary to nature.
And, why is all fiction based lately in "the rules of an alternate dimension"? It's getting boring.

Actually regular people cannot see them in a mirror either. Because they are not of this earth they have no substance therefore do not cast a reflection.

Because vampires exist only in fantasy and whoever invented the fantasy could make any rules they pleased.

Because they are undead and exist on an alternate dimensional plane therefore the rules of our universe do not apply.
Also explains how they fly and turn into bats.
