k set it up on top of one another hun...

(6x^2 + 7)
+ ( x^2 - 9)
_________ (line up like terms (x, x^2, x^3,y,...)
7x^2 - 2 (combine them, watching out for signs!)

if it's subtracting, then distribute the negative to the second equation...like...

say if that were (6x^2+7) - (x^2-9), then it would be the same as above except ...

+ (x^2-9) would be - (x^2-9)..and so you would do this..
+ (-x^2+9)...add the opposites of ALL terms of the second equation.

hope that helps =)

add the numbers before the x and x^2. but only add x's to x's and x^2's to x^2's. so the answer to your question is 6+1 (the 1 is understood because there's nothing there)=7x^2 and then add the ones without any x's so 7+-9= -2. so your answer is 7x^2-2
