Alright, I'm looking at guitars again and I want either an Epiphone G400 (which is an SG) ($400), an Epiphone Les Paul ($400), or a Fender Tele ($400). Just tell me which one you think is the best and explain to the best of your ability. I basically wanna play just rock, all kinds, punk, a little metal, some mellow stuff, post-hardcore, any kind of rock, which is the best in your opinion?

I have the G400 and the Les Paul by Epiphone and they both sound great but different tone wise.....I wouldn't mine owning a Tele but all in all, I'd go with the G400 simply for the tone and bite!!! (Get some kind of Marshall amp for best results!!)

Well, I hate to say it, but there are multiple answers to this question.

The first, and most important answer, is to just test out all three guitars. There's a great saying: "the guitar picks the guitarist and not the other way around." Different guitars come out of the factory at different quality levels with no complete reason. An epi one day might sound better than a Gibson on another... what matters is what your fingers, and more so, your ears tell you.

Now, for rock, you'll probably want to lean towards the SG or the LP. Fender strats are usually more versatile, but telecaster often plays better cleaner. It's very common to use in country music (it's usually the twangy guitar you hear in the background).

Personally, the LP is my preference over the SG. It's extremely heavy, but to me, has a little more versatility and plays beautifully. Both, however, are rock standards and sound great when cranked way up (which is the only way to play rock :-) ).

So overall, I'd say go for the SG or the LP. However, I will also say this: be open to other lesser known guitar models. You can find for a similar price a guitar that's just as good if not better, and because it's not a 'brand name,' so to speak, your money goes father. Also, if you can bear to wait, saving up for a true Gibson is also a good option.

Good luck and keep playing!

I wouldnt get the Fender Tele simply because I've never been intrigued by its look but the sound is also different and just doesn't feel as comfortable when I play which is mainly heavier rock and metal. I'd get either the Les Paul or the G400. The Les Paul is good but its really heavy so it can cause problems when endurance is a factor but it sounds great and you can use it to play clean sustainful classic rock, soaring solos, or even heavy distorted metal. But my favorite has to be the G400. Its a great guitar because it sounds great and still has great sustain as the Les Paul but has a killer look for rocking out, I love the double cutaway because it looks better and lets you reach the higher frets easier. Its also great for clean sustain parts, solos, and it is awesome for metal. Plus its not more expensive like the Standard SG's and is much better quality than the Epiphone G310 SG thats usually $200 to $250. Go with the G400, looks great, sounds great, wide versatility in playing different genres and types of music, and has great qualities like seperate tone and volume knobs for the humbuckers and has the tune-o-matic bridge. You know what, if you want to save even more, you should get the Epiphone Vintage G400, same guitar but in worn brown or cherry finish. That one only costs $299.99 on www.musiciansfriend.com so you save $100 just because of the vintage look and has Alnico V humbuckers. Or the Goth G400, same thing but all black, nice look at also $300 at www.sweetwater.com which always has free shipping, as does musicians friend on orders over $99.

I have a few different guitars I play. It just depends on what sound you're looking for, and which neck feels the most comfortable. My favorite is my tele with P-90 pickups. It has an excellent sound for any kind of music, really hammers, especially rock and blues. I prefer the feel of the neck on the tele. I have a custom strat with Semore Dunkin pickups that screams also. Epi's a good axe, a lot of them out there.

for the types of music you want to play- Les Paul- With the Les you can obtain the soft sustain or blazing rock. It's build with the right types of wood. SG- is a rock guitar but can be quite mellow. Telecaster- hard hitting treble with little sustain.

Fender sucks(the greatest guitarist to play one was Hendrix, who was great,I'm not puttin' him down,RIP),but Les Paul is the best you can get(guitarests who use them include Jimmy Page,David Gilmour,The guitarests of Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top,etc.)
