I was looking at a HP Laptop and was wondering if a better video card would increase or decrease the batterys life on it? I really dont need it for gaming or anything like that but would a better one help a lot on the battery? Thanks

A "better" graphics card (i.e. one with better performance) would more likely than not cause a shorter battery life, because generally it'll require more power.

Well, first off in most laptops you cannot upgrade the graphics card. If you have a laptop that you can upgrade the laptop in then it will decrease the battery life. If you get a newer pc with a high end graphics card in it already then chances are it won't use all of the power unless you are playing a video game. You will be the same on the battery life, unless you play a video game.

One would assume the more powerful a graphics card, the more power it will use. However, after some minor research, it may be possible that an upgrade could help you benefit, by being more energy efficient.
The question is,what video card is in it now? if it's a relatively recent one, then an upgrade would be just about pointless.
Here's a link that may help you some, even though it doesnt answer the question directly (although the last post does mention video efficiency)
