anyone can. it is a belief of Wicca that it can be done if that is your question.

many religions, Pagan religions, believe in astral projection. but it is not as easy as many would make it seem.
i spent 5 years leanring to meditate just to accomplish the most basic form of astral projection (guided meditation) or shamanic journey.)

i would consider myself to be fairly good at it but it staill takes a long time to meditate and get my mind to fuly leave my body. and even then i am limited as to where and what i seem to be able to do. i can communicate with the gods. and visit some ancient sites, but i cannot see this world clearly. it is like looking though a thick fog while wearing sunglasses to me.

Blah Blah Blah, just wish those that choose to subscribe to "conventional" religions would quit pissing in my parade. Wiccan had roots dating back in some areas to the early 12-13th century. Most wiccans are also more of "base naturalists", if you can remember 2 rules you are great, but they are very hard to live by.
#1 HARM NONE-this includes yourself
#2 THREEFOLD-what you do will come back to you three times over

As for astral projection it is actually more commonly found in shamanism, for the growing of the spirit through journey. However that does not mean that a wiccan can not accomplish this same experience. It just depends on if your mind is open, and if you can find your way back at the journeys end. For the beginner in this area would STRONGLY recommend classes in meditation and the first few times you try have someone/thing you love and are deeply emotionally attached to for help to get back.

Absolutely. In it's purest form, astral projection is nothing more really than a controlled O.B.E. (out- of-body experience). While not all Wiccans practice astral projection, I would say most do. There are many ways to achieve astral projection. I would suggest the shamanic journey described in Amber Wolfe's "In The Shadow of the Shaman" for a really good start.

All mammals can astral project......about 1 out of 3 do it automatically without training.

Ever had a dream of flying or falling? Chances are, you were astral projecting, particularly if the dream ended with a sensation similar to coming down a flight of stairs and forgetting the last step just as you 'fall' back into your body.

Astral projection takes real focus to do it intentionally. Some are able to do it in their sleep. Some can do it to the point where others are able to see them on the physical plane.

Guided meditation is an easy way to get started in meditation. It helps you visualize other planes of reality, and once there you can begin to interact on that plane. I have a plane where I keep my library and some magickal items. Still, they only exist on those planes, though I have some physical counterparts.

Guided meditation can be done with an experienced guide. It can also be done with recordings on CD, tape or whatever. If you are going to use a recorded means, listen to it prior to medidation to be sure that it's what you want and that you agree with what is being done. If it's with an experienced guide, you might want to talk to them just to be comfortable.

Medidation is a state, similar to an hypnotic one. It calms the conscious mind and raises the energy in the subconscious. In meditating, you need to be comfortable. Hard chairs, binding clothing, these things will make it harder to enter the meditative state.

Anyone can do it. It fits better into the Pagan paradigm than the Christian, though some Christian mystics were known to have done something similar.

Good luck.

China, I don't see why Wiccans cannot perform Astral Projection. Here's why...

Mystical Model:
The mystical model includes a large variety of belief systems and astral maps, but they are tied together by their belief that astral projection takes place outside of the actual physical body. A more subtle energy body is believed to carry the consciousness outside of the physical body, and as one progresses to more advanced levels of the astral plane, more subtle bodies are realized and consciousness is transferred in turn to each of them. (Other mystical models assume only one subtle body.) The subtle body is attached to the physical body by means of an energetic connection which usually takes the appearance of a silver cord 'plugging' into the chakras like an umbilical cord.

Phasing model

The phasing model, which was defined by Robert Monroe, contains the belief that it is impossible to actually leave the body in the truest sense of the word, and that the astral planes and the physical world are merely points on the long spectrum of consciousness. When a person projects, they actually "phase" into another area of consciousness and the locales it contains. This can be likened to tuning a radio to another station. One of the initial signposts representing a phase shift away from physical reality has been labelled the state of focus 10 (mind awake/body asleep). This viewpoint can be seen as a logical progression of the philosophy that external reality is actually an internally created state (see Postmodernism, Buddhism).

There are types of projection:

Astral projection - The traveller finds him- or herself in an apparently real domain, analogous to the "other worlds" experienced by traditional peoples, which have no parallel to any physical setting or to consensus reality, described by New Agers and occultists as the astral plane or the astral.

Etheric Projection - In contrast to "astral" projection, the traditional understanding of out-of-body experiences involves the projector (or traveller) moving about in (usually invisible) or ghost-like form in mundane physical reality-- the etheric body. This world may, however, have minor differences between the physical reality world we know if strict mind control is not maintained.
Practitioners sometimes refer to this practice as Real Time Projection (RTP) and the mundane world as the "Real Time Zone", or "RTZ", terms that were coined by Robert Bruce. From the Real Time Zone, travellers can access "the astral" or remain in the RTZ and witness Real Time happenings.

Many people confuse this phenomenon with astral travel, however etheric travel is mainly related to that which can and does exist, physically. During this type of experience, there are no fantastical words, or self-absorbed encounters; the majority of the experience can be validated. Dr. Charles Tart has done many experiments, which conclude that the person can not possibly invent the experience-- unlike astral travel, where the experince is conceptual.

Virtual reality projection - Part astral projection and part real time projection, called Virtual Reality Projection by most, is when a projector claims to move on the physical plane and interact with the astral plane at the same time. An example of this is the projector walking into a "real" poster or picture and being transported to a perfect reconstruction of this place/world, via the concentrated experiences and thoughts of every beholder of the concept of the picture.

Occultism is the study of occult or hidden wisdom. To the occultist it is the study of "Truth", a deeper truth that exists beneath the surface: 'The truth is always hidden in plain sight'. It can involve such subjects as magic (alternatively spelled and defined as magick), extra-sensory perception, astrology, spiritualism, numerology and lucid dreaming. There is often a strong religious element to these studies and beliefs, and many occultists profess adherence to religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism or Buddhism.

Wicca as a religion is primarily concerned with the priestess or priest's relationship to their Goddess and God. The Lady and Lord (as they are often called) are seen as primal cosmic beings, the source of limitless power, yet they are also familiar figures who comfort and nurture their children, and often challenge or even repremand them as well.

Hence, my conjecture that, yes, indeed, a Wiccan CAN without compromising the relationship between herself & The Goddess, The Great Mother.

Anyone can astral project. It just takes practice and finding a method that works for you. My preferred technique is the Golden Dawn's Body of Light method, but there are many more out there.

I don't think religion is a factor when dealing with astral projection. Some people believe that we do it in upwards of 3 nights per week while we sleep, involuntarily.
