i don't know how to get to a higher level and why does it matter. i see there are people on level 7. what is the benefit to that

It doesnt matter much; just shows willingness to answer questions, and you have a louder voice because you can "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" answers other than your own based on how well-thought out they are. Unfortunately lots of people use this feature just to thumbs down answers they dont agree with on those controversial questions.

you get to higher levels by answering others questions and when your answer gets chosen as best answer, there are your 10 points which add up.It doesn't matter just shows if you wish to participate in here with us yahooers that you want to take part and like helping others out by giving your advice ect... The benefit is that it gives you the added feeling that you help someone out. that's all and yes you do get some added recognition.It's All FUN, And Hey you may have a Question that you may want to ask and get some others view point, Just another way to Chat on-line w/persons around the world. Like many things, it is a time kill activity. Plus some people really like to answer serious questions.

Some people love video games. Others love to watch NFL football or NASCAR races.

This is just another activity that interests others. Different strokes for different folks.

And, there are SOMETIMES very serious questions, and the askers really need advice.

In your case, it is obvious you should not get too engrossed in YA. See comment above about different strokes...
