The Most Wonderful Thing
By Arlene Ogston
(Contact: Arleneabz@aol.com)

The most wonderful thing,
The most comfortable of all,
Is to sit with a book
And dream of the world.
The letters and pages
Take your life away
And give you instead
A land of no grey.

Your mind eye opens,
All vivid and bright.
You live in a world
Of magic and light.

You read what you will,
See what you want,
Feel the wind at your back,
Feel the sun on your face.

Through mountains, green forests,
Oceans of blue,
Dragons Enchantments,
Your world become golden,
Glows candle light.
The spark gets brighter.
Thoughts take flight.

All doors open up.
You get a glance in.
The words become pictures
And grow from within.

The story ends,
Maybe happy or sad,
But you are content
With the dreams you have had.

Thanks for sharing your poem with us. I love reading too.
You might want to post it on a writers' site like www.ourecho.com. It's free to post there, you get comments and encouragement, and they have a monthly contest with $100 prize.
(received your message - sorry, that you didn't stay with libraries as a career. It was very satisfying even though there was no time to read all those books. I find more time to read now than I ever did while working in a library.)

Firstly I just want to say I love reading too! However, you should be careful of the diction and the meter used to convey your message more successfully.
