Because they obviously have no respect for other people and they weren't brought up to tell the truth.

Because they feel like something in their life is out of their control. Lying is their way of trying to take back that control. It's a selfish act done for the purpose of getting your own way. It is the result of greed, jealousy, insecutiry, or just plain maliciousness. And yet, every human being that can talk or communicate has done it!

it's human nature...often we lie to get what we want, other times we lie to cover up some known fact. sometimes we lie because of habit, other times we lie so we can hurt others (or prevent others from being hurt). sometimes people lie to make themselves appear better than they appear (or to make friends)...others lie so they can make people feel sorry for them....
lying can be a form of denial....or it can be a temporary stress reliever.
people lie to protect someone or something (sometimes to the death)...others do it for selfish reasons. some people lie for no apparent reason at all.
why do people do it? for many...many reasons. you need to evaluate for yourself why people lie...or why someone lied to you (or why you lied to someone else).

people lie for a couple reasons.
to get themselves out of a tight spot .
and sometimes people lie to save another's feelings.
