eih human is a wanting being..if we have more we want more..if you want to be contented then follow Lao Tsu's philosophy..to live simple you need to supress yourself with worldly possessions..if you can do that then you can be satisfied with what you have but if not then continue to work and want more...that's human nature..

Most of us ARE stuck in consumerist hell. They count on that dissatisfacton you feel to keep you buying more stuff. You will never be satisfied if you think that some object is going to do it for you. It's difficult to be grateful for what one has, but that's the key to being satisfied, and happy. Advertising is a science refined over many, many years. Often the advertisers know more about our mind than we do, and how we'll react. They do that to raise your emotional level, in turn your desire, to get you to buy. You may feel that you NEED a "thing", because someone told you (an ad) you did. That is not a "need", that is a manipulation of your emotions.
Are you fed? do you have a place to sleep? a job even? Then everything else is gravy. Be thankful for that. My best advice is to spend time with someone that doesn't have those things, and maybe it will change your perspective.

I guess I depends on how you judge your worth. Some people have to buy to show everyone else what they have... Some are happy with simple things and don't have to have the newest and greatest invention to feel they are living good.
Life is enough, the thing to remember is stop and smell the roses while you are jogging your 5 miles a day....

Human is never satisfied with whatever they have. They always want more than what they have but they forget that when you are content with what you have now, you will feel happier

NO, it is the drive for a better life that keeps us evolving. Otherwise we would still be living in the trees. Then again maybe that would be a good thing.

You bet we can, but it isn't easy. You have to learn not to let things be the source of your contentment.
My source of contentment is Jesus the Christ, so whatever else I have or don't have isn't that important. He is all I need. Not that I always feel content, but I always have what I have in Him to fall back on, whatever I feel.

God gives us struggles in life so that when good things come we can appreciate them to the fullest. Be optimistic, as hard as it may be.

No. Either you have and want more, or you have everything and wish there was more to be had. but it's not always a bad thing to want better things.
