to clear up a couple things, bats are not practically blind, they actually have pretty good eye sight. They do however use sight along with echolocation to find their prey as this lets them get a more precise location. Also, bats do NOT suck blood like someone said, vampire bats eat blood but rather lap it up, they do not suck it out, and they are not found in the united states. It is the only bat that eats blood and it only eats the blood of other animals, usually chickens. There are many different species, most eats insects, but there is also a fruit eating bat. They have fairly small teeh but some do have a large canine in comparison to body size, and their teeth are very sharp. Bats live for a long time compared to other mammals of such a small size. Some can live to be about 25-30 years old! Here are some good websites:

Bats really stand out in the animal world. They are the only mammals that can fly, and they live much of their lives hanging upside down. Most species are only active at night, dusk and dawn, spending their days in dark caves. Many bats have developed adaptations that let them find their way (and their prey) in complete darkness. Bats are also well-known for sucking blood, though in actuality, there are only a few specific species that feed this way.A bat has a much more flexible wing structure. It is very much like a human arm and hand, except it has a thin membrane of skin (called the patagium) extending between the "hand" and the body, and between each finger bone. Bats can move the wing like a hand, essentially "swimming" through the air. The "thumb" extends out of the wing as a small claw, which bats use to climb up trees and other structures. This helps them reach a high "launching point" for flight takeoff. Appropriately, the order of bats is called Chiroptera, Greek for "hand-wing." There are more than 1,000 bat species in the world, making them one of the most prevalent orders of mammals. In fact, more than a quarter of the total number of mammal species are species of bat. Bat species are divided into two suborders: Megachiroptera andMicrochiroptera -
Bats vary considerably in size and appearance. The smallest bat, the bumble-bee bat, has a wingspan of about 6 inches (15 cm), while the largest bat, the Malayan flying fox, can have a wingspan as wide as 6 feet (1.8 m). Apart from their leathery wings, megachiroptera bats look a lot like other mammals, with large eyes, small ears and extended snouts. Most microchiroptera species, on the other hand, have a completely unique facial appearance, with wide, extended ears and peculiarly shaped nostrils. These odd features help the bats get around in the dark.
Only fruit bats, also known as fox bats, eat fruits.

Bats in the US use echolocation-(sonar) to finds its way around and to catch insects. Some can live for up to thirty years. Bats in the US don't eat fruit. Their teeth are small but sharp. Hoary Bats (the largest in the US) have a 16 inch wingspan.

Bats sleep in the day because they hunt and fly better at night, so as a result they sleep when they are least effective at doing things....just as we humans sleep at night because we operate best in the daytime, so we sleep at night.
Bats are basically blind, they use sonar to "see" things, they send "sound waves" forward and depending on how the "sound waves" bounce back, tells them whats there.
Bats don't only eat fruit, there are many types of bats, and they all eat different things, such as bugs.

Because they stay up late watching "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno".
Actually it's because they don't need light to acquire their prey.
Google bats and I'm sure there's a web site that will tell you all about them.
