you can use a CAT5 ethernet cable. Make sure it is set as a cross-over cable, otherwise you'll need a hub or router if you are using the regular cables. Windows XP should be able to recognize that configuration.

You can use a double sided USB cable (perferably 2.0, but 1.1 works too, highly recommended) , you can use a network cable and an Ethernet card and hub, you (if your computer has the connection) can use a parallel port. I think I got them all. If you want to tranfer files you can use a program such as "Real VNC" to tranfer the files over the internet, but I am not sure if it works for mac...

Connecting a mac and a labtop has no function. If you want to transfer stuff between the hard drive, than you could use AIM or some other instant messaging program.

I highly doubt the two are in any way compatible. But in the event i'm wrong, probably a cat5 cable.
