What I did was this: I hi-lighted a portion of a microsoft Word document and cut it out. Then I pasted it onto another word document. I closed out of the other word document (where I had pasted the portion) without saving it, and I answered "no" to "you placed a large amount of text on the clipboard. Would you like to keep it there?" HOW DO I GET IT BACK? Is there any way, no matter how complex it may be?

I saved the original document before closing it; that's how I realized the first portion of the document was missing. ^_^'' heheh..............................

If I am understanding you correctly, you pasted it to a second document. If this is correct, you have it still. Just copy it from the second document.
If you are using Office XP, there appears to be a feature called Document recovery. http://www.microsoft.com/office/previous/xp/columns/itcolumn05.asp
If not, there are some document recovery programs available. Here's one I found on yahoo search; Im sure there are others: http://www.softpile.com/Utilities/Backup/Review_45555_index.html

Good luck.

You probably need an expert which I am not! But I am going to keep an eye out right here to see if someone answers it - because I am interested myself. If you have closed Word then you can't "undo" the edit. and you answered no to saving the contents of the clipboard. With those two elements I don't believe there is a quick answer. But somewhere in your computer the info still exists, so invite a computer geek over if no one answers it here!

You could always edit undo (Ctrl + Z).

If this does not work, then if you did not save over the original document just close the document with out saving and then re open the document. The information should reappear.

Well. Did you also save/close the first document? If you closed it without saving changes, it should still be there. If you saved your changes, I'm afraid you're stuck. I hope it wasn't huge, because the only way I know to get it back would be to type it back.

if you've still got the original document open, try undoing the action by either hitting CTRL+Z or edit/undo

If you haven't turned off your computer yet, you should be able to get it back by pasting again.
