Nothing should be in a bowl. I don't even agree with bettas in anything smaller then 2 gallons, just my opinion.
Here's a good article on goldfish in bowls if anyone cares to read. Same would apply to any fish though.

No recommendations except a male Betta because space wise a bowl isn't large enough for a goldfish. Tropical fish need water to be filtered and heated to a temp of 78-80. The betta would like a nice artificial plant to sit on. Using marbles instead of rocks will make water changes easier also.

The only thing you can do is bettas. They are the only ones that can thrive and live happily in bowls. Petsmart does have some small one gallon tanks that have dividers in them. This makes it so you can have two without them being able to fight.
As someone else said, goldfish are too dirty and they will eventually get 1-2 feet long.
All other fish need heated water.
I hope this helped.

You could get maybe tetras or a few small catfish. Betta's are really tough fish though and are best for the condition you speak of. Most of the other fish out there need filtration and if you didn't have that you'd probably have to change the water every week and that'd make them stress out and eventually die.

Do LOTS of research before you go getting a bowl and think you're going to just throw some fish in there. Google or yahoo up some fish info pages, there are tons of them out there.
You could get away with a betta by itself, or maybe a small freshwater shrimp by itself, or maybe a pair of whitecloud minnows or a pair of zebra danios by themselves.
Honestly it's much easier to buy a tank that has a filter and all already with it, much easier to maintain. Just do your research and you'll be alright.

No kind of fish does well in a bowl. They ALL need filters and heaters (unless they are goldfish). Goldfish don't need heaters, they are cold water fish.
Fish need one gallon of water per inch of small thin fish. The bigger the fish, the more water it needs. Change 25% of the water each week.

Nothing should ever be put in a bowl. Bowls do not provide proper space to swim, they cannot accommendate a heater, filter, airpump, etc. Also, much more difficult to maintain the right chem levels.
Please consider getting an actual aquarium.

Bowls are illegal in different parts of the world because of how cruel they are. No fish should be kept in them and I can't wait for the day they become illegal in the states.
I agree with tikitiki 100%.

Guppies are cool and can live in a bowl. They are small but can have cool colors. Goldfish do well in bowls to and there are all different types. Feed your gold fish cucumber slices or zucchini slices and his colors will become very vivid. Goldfish are usually inexpensive but watch out because they like to breed, but you could always give babies back to the pet store.
