In my 50 odd years of following football, I've seen many great players. But in terms of overall ability, the greatest of them all has to be George best. He was capable of winning games on his own (Benfica away in the European cup some years ago springs to mind). He could make the greatest and hardest of defenders look like novices (I remember the way he danced all the way through the Sheff united defence to score)... I recall him making maokneys of two of the hardest defenders in the then league...(Doyle of Man City) and Harris (of Chelsea). Best had everything. Not only could he dribble a ball like it was tied to his boots - and in all weathers too, he could tackle, he could defend, he could head a ball as good as anyone, he had terrific pace and balance, he was brave and he scored some of the finest goals ever seen. It will be a very long time before we see the like of him again - if ever.

Jimmy Johnstone "God bless his soul"
I saw him many times at Parkhead definitely one of the greats. In that class also Kenny Dalglish before they sent him to Liverpool for the highest ever signing fee at the time 440,000 quid!

i like graceful players and the greatest of these i have had the privillage of watching was johan cruyf, he had everything that was beautiful about the game and played with an elegance unrivalled in todays frantic matches. i guess the nearest player would be bergkamp of todays generation.
