What do you think of the Muslim Veil in regards to a Woman's choice to guard her Modesty!?

Question

Muslim woman can take the veil off in front of children and other woman but not men. This is not to discriminate against men, but to guard their modesty and a sign of respect for oneself and for other's.

The veil is not forced upon Muslims woman, and is worn of personal religous choice.

If a Muslim woman believes she should guard her modesty and not reveil her features in public by wearing the veil, shouldn't that be that person's choice? as long as that person is not hurting anybody or her veil is not getting in the way of her job or duties, then i see no reason why she shouldn't be allowed or be discouraged to wear the veil.

None of my female family members wear the veil or the scarf and they are all believers and practising Muslims.

This is just another stab at Islam, by picking on something insignifcant to keep Islam in the limelight and under public notice and scrutiny.

We should attack Islam and keep it under scrutiny. They are our enemies in this world. They want us dead. Its self protection, its natural, and theres nothing wrong with it. I will stop labeling them all as terrorists when they start speaking out against the terrorists. Its the brainwashed liberals that want us to tolerate those who want us dead. It didn't help those who died in terrorist attacks to tollerate them

I totally agree with you. I think most people that aren't from Islamic countries tend to see the veil as oppressive, but its really a matter of western cultures placing our values onto other peoples. However, i will say that i do have a problem with the burqa and the way in which women were degraded within the extremist al-qaeda regime. So as long as the veil is not used to degrade or oppress, it really is a personal choice that is none of our business.

If it is solely a choice then why in some Muslim countries are women killed for the families honor when they are raped, or just seen in public without a veil. You opened the door. Personally I don't care what religion anyone is. Some one can say or not any religion they want. There is only 1 entity that knows for sure & (s)he not into gossup.

if an American women went to an Islamic country and she wore shorts and a t-shirt do the men have a right to throw stones at her ? i saw this on a TV show where 7 Americans were crossing through Europe and they entered an Islamic country. they were site seeing when the men started throwing small Stone at the girl. they had to run back to their vehicles all the while the men chased them and throw stones. my question is why are Islamic countries so intolerant of others? when they come to live in America they can wear what they want. where are all the so called peaceful clerics ? i have yet to hear of an Islamic cleric denouncing homicide bombers. if you want respect you give respect. we do not want to live under Islamic law. Islamic nations are intolerant of outsiders why should outsider be tolerant of them ? i have also read where clerics have said if the women is no wearing her burka she is asking to be raped. what is that all about.

I believe they have every right to do as they chose , and no one needs to meddle in a very old custom that has worked for them from the beginning, now Jewish women pray in different part too ,like the muslim women ,but we never hear anything about this! Why is there so much discrimination and injustice to Muslims? They are children of God too We need to look at the Crhistian religion more deeply and find some secrets there .

She was working in a BRITISH school, not a middle eastern one. She's the foreigner (even if she has citizenship). The culture of the english (who don't wear veils) shouldn't have to change to suit the "guests" of the country!

Can a Western woman teach in a Middle Eastern school without the veil? Wait.... could a WOMAN be allowed to teach in a Middle Eastern school even?!!!

Yesof course it should be allowed. It is personal choice. Like wearing a cross or a skull cap. In fact many christian churches woman wore veils as a sign of respected. Later that changed to hats. This is all nit picking. Attempts to bring others down in doing that you wind up hurting yourself. Do what is right for you.

Why isn't muslim women speaking for themselves.
Why do men force them to stay in the background as bedroom slaves so they can feed off of the womens misery.
Why is it that in Muslim chat rooms every single female if eventually turns out to have been men.

Islamic females are traded off for marriage as young as 4 years old by cousins, brother in laws , village clerics for money they recieved as if the child was a product.
Murder of Islamic young women in German, and France, and other European countries go on now because they are considered "too German" or "too French". Islamic males require the mother to force her youngest son to kill their sisters because she was too german as happens many times in Germany. The youngest son is chosen because he would receive the shortest prison term and the men stay hidden behind his moms coat tails, and force the women to take the blame. Islamic men are (read it in the news anywhere) cowards of the worse type as evidenced by the murders of young Islamic women in Pakistan, Indroneasia, Germany, France, Britian, while Islamic men in Iran, and Iraq, and other Islamic countries hide behind the backs of children, and women to shoot people or send innocent youths out to die with a bomb straped to their backs. Often the bomber does not know the dirty deeds the little cowards have planned for them.

You know all of this is true about you. all you have to do is read the news in your own country and outside.

A real man would strap the bomb to his own butt. But Islamic men like Saddan Hussian, and the bin ladins of the world will plead for for their own lives, and demand the civil liberties freedom offers.
Their prophet sucks, they suck, and Islamic men are a disgrace to the word men.

We don't wish to be forced to practice her religion with her, therefore outside of Islamic country's, she has no right to impose her religion on us. Society is not required to make an exception for her, or expected to tolerate her beliefs. This is not accceptable behavior for any religion.

Practice your religion anyway you wish, behind close doors or in a place of worship. Beyond that, you're out of line!

The veil is also worn by a lot of non-muslims as well, what better diguise does a criminal need?
