Well, Disney sold the team a while back and the new owners wanted to reflect that. They polled the fans, and they decided to drop the Mighty from the name but keep the Ducks; that way, the team isn't totally breaking from its histroy, but neither is it advertising a series of Disney movies.

The owner changed the name of the team, and though they play in the same building, it is now called Honda Center, while in years past, it was the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim.

DISNEY SOLD THE TEAM, AND THE NEW OWNER REMOVED THE MIGHTY IN THE TEAM NAME--BECAUSE IT REMINDED HIM TO MUCH OF THE KIDS MOVIES ABOUT THE MIGHTY DUCKS HOCKEY TEAM.
