You should really check out Jacksonville FL.
Beach front condos are priced at around $300 per square foot rather than $600 like south Florida. It is less commercialized and crowded. Furthermore, Jacksonville rarely get huge damages from hurricanes, and thus insurance is still fairly reasonable.

Any where on the coast of South Florida would give you that feel.Especially on the water but the prices for waterfront property are dear.
