Sometines I've noticed preachers on tv praying to " gOd " or asking for somehting. Being born into Caholisism. I've noticed that the priests also thought that there is someone actually listening to their prayers. I always had doubts about what they were trying to acomplish. If there is only one god. On any given Sunday mass service or Ramadannor Haj or Passover or any religous holiday. How can only one being be able to listen to millions of people praying and asking for somehting from him ? Didn't Spinoza or Einstein say that there's no personal god ? If people pray for the recovery of a loved one from a fatal disease. Shouldn't there be no need for medical treatment ?

Some of you wrongly assumed that this question is being asked by an Atheist. I never wrote; Why do people believe in any kind of God ? I merely wrote; Look up ( A PERSONAL God). There's a difference. Einstein believed in a non-personal God. My belief system is based on his. That " God is not concerned with our problems... " He isn't an old white man with a long beard sitting on a cloud pondering the prayers of human beings with their human concerns. That's what a personal God is and that's what people have created for themselves. Yet, the prayers by these people are futile and most of them know that. But, they like to put on a show anyway.

I can't pick a best answer to this one. Remembr that show; Highway to Heaven with Michael Landon ? That guy was porbably a believer in a God who listens to prayers or why would he do that show ? He died of cancer. Not, from very old age. He didn't live to his maximum life span capacity. Which a personal genoerous, all loving god Im sure wouldn't mind allowing in an infinite Universe. God Atheist or believer. Just remember the lyrics of Danzig; " Tell me Jesus tell me Christ.... Just remeber you will surely die. " That's from the song;Snakes of Christ or was it Long way back from Hell.

Well, I believe in a personal God because the Bible says that God is a personal God. Honestly, I don't give a rip if Spioza or Einstein or Bill Clinton or Ben Aflec say that there is no personal God because they're just people and they are wrong.

In addition, you're argument is kinda lame considering that we are talking about an almight God who created the world in 6 days and could make mountains dance or destroy the universe in a blink or an eye. God is omnicient; he is all powerful and he is all knowing. I can't explain how God's power works because it is infinite and human minds are finite but I know that it exists.

And no, just because we pray that God will heal someone does not mean we should sit around. Of course, if God wills it than medical treatment wouldn't be needed but since Jesus and the disciples time God does not work so blatantly in the world, though he is still soveriegn. My father passed away from lung cancer early this year and for the two years he struggled with it we prayed that if it was God's will that he would heal my father by a miracle or through the chemotherapy. It wasn't God's will, however, and now my father is in heaven and is free of all the pain of this world for which I can only rejoice.

One can't listen to millions at the same time, a god can listen to millions simultaneously. That's one the reason why he is God. Why is Einstein an authority on the existence of God? Wasn't he involved with mathematics and relativity? Why attribute to him? Being a genius in an area does make you an expert on all things. Look an idiot savant like the fictional Rainman and that illustrates the point of that type of person. Would you ask an idiot savant about the existence of God? God is not completely understandable; that's why He is God. If you could explain Him exhaustively, that would make you God. As for prayer, praying does not work based on whether you get something or not. If you got everything you wanted from God when you asked Him, that why make Him a servant and you the master. Christians pray asking for what they want but based on God's Will. That is, if God in His wisdom, who can see the future, know all things, powerful enough to bring the universe in existence, and is the fullest expression of unconditional love, thinks it to be the best thing, then answer the request with a yes in His own timing. God is not a genie in heaven waiting with baited breathe to do what we want. The Bible says if you seek Him with all your heart, mind, soul, and spirit you will find Him. That is a promise from Him.

You're opening a can of worms here, and you're going to get lots of closed-minded answers.

My answer for you--it's your belief. The idea of a personal God is taught in almost every religion that practices the idea of God. And the mindset is this: God created humans with finite minds, meaning that we are not capable of understanding things like "Where did God come from?". The answer is that he's always been there. He was never created. We were built to not be able to fathom it. So the question of whether God can hear millions of prayers at once is supposed to be one we believe on faith, not fact. Or at least, that's the teaching.

Secondly, the rest of your questions can all be labeled under the same. They are tests of faith and matters of faith. So either you believe it or you don't. If I were you, I would just accept another's religion, and try not to get your nose stuck too far up. It's all about being open-minded and sticking to what you believe yourself.

Why do you falsely believe people falsely believe in a personal God??I discovered that the only person i need truly worry about is me and what I believe, I'm not sure but i believe Einstein was refering to ,no God as a white bearded old man saying who is good or bad. Have you ever met a living saint? I have been blessed with meeting ,face to face with two. receiving baptism with spirit. I have listened to their talks many times and i can tell you without doubt they are very aware of every thing that happens in this universe, It still overloads my mind just to think of it.if there were no need for medical treatment, who would ever turn to God in prayer??who woud experience the awe in having that prayer answered?? God is Impersonal, shining the light of his unconditional love on all equally, both sinner an saint.

I was raised catholic also and now I am a Spinozian, just as Einstein was. I find that this subject will get you more moronic responses than you can handle. We are just beginning to understand the intimation of religiosity. So you will find that he belief in a personal " performance" god will not go away any time soon. All true change is incremental change, so hunker down for the long run.

Unfortunately, the universe (and life in it) is more complicated than we all think it should be. We'll probably never know all the "why's". Spinoza and Einstein died without knowing, you and I probably will too. Maybe someone is listening to prayers, maybe nobody does. Even if there's no one there, it still does a body good to get things off their chest sometimes. If there is somebody listening, they've probably got a much bigger view of happenings than I do. I could judge the actions and decisions of an all-powerful god, but he probably wouldn't really care.

Religions have been a part of human Psyche from the beginning.

It's more important that they believe, then actually benefit in some way by praying to them.

I'm sure there are people that believe there Deity can return health to the believers!

I think it's considered Child Abuse if a parent avoids Medical Attention for a child.

If it were possible to pray for health, there would be no need for hospitals!

I believe that there is one God. He the great "I Am" and is capable of things no human can imagine in their wildest dreams, and He is also capable of everything we can imagine. God is God. He sees everything, and if someone dies, then there is a reason for their death, even if we never know that reason. No one lives forever, not here on Earth. But if you accept Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord, you will live forever in Heaven with God and fellow believers. Get a Bible, and read the books John and Revalation. The best way to learn about God is through His Word.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotton son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but the save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already, because he does not believe in the name of God's one and only son. This is the verdict; light has come into the world but the men loved darkness instead of the light because there deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into it for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God. " -John 3:16-21

It appears you do not understand God.
God is omni potent. He is everywhere and everything. He does not have to act according to our will. For he is God and he made us. Not the other way around. He does heal and he does answer prayer for I am a witness to that and I will testify to the fact he has done allot for me when NO one else would. He loves you and me even though we do bad or evil against him. Who else would do that for anyone other than God? No One. Do me wrong and I'll do you wrong. God says do me wrong and I will try to teach you to do good better with Love in your heart.
Look at him this way. He is a Father and you are his potential child. If the child does wrong it gets corrected. Right? If the child does right then it gets praise and blessings of things needed that are not available right now. Love him as the Father he is and he will love you as the son you will be. He promised this. God keeps his word, not like man does. He is a loving Father and you can be a child of God and if you’re a child of God then you will become God as he is and his first born son Jesus’ is now. Jesus is not dead but alive and is checking us out and he will return to everyone dismay. O to those whom do not believe for there will be many woes in that day. For On my deathbed I will believe this no matter what. For I love God with my entire mind, body and heart for he is my Father and Jesus is my big Brother.
So repent and change your mind for God is returning to this world to rule it for 1000 years. You can either be for him or against him. There will be a Judgment and a reckoning.

There is a religion, who believes that a sick person will recover by prayer, they will not seek medical attention, even if the child or person dies. They will say it was God's will. They are called Christian Scientists. Now to your most important question why do people believe in a personal God. I can not speak for others, but tell you that I believe in GOD and that God loves every person in this world. Faith is a miracle healer and I believe that my prayers in Jesus name are heard, Since God is no respecter of persons, he will hear all of his children, if they reach out to him for help.
